MOUNT OLIVE — Mariah Morris, the 2019 Burroughs Wellcome Fund North Carolina Teacher of the Year, will deliver an inspirational message to University of Mount Olive education majors on Thursday, Aug. 29, at 6 p.m. in Southern Bank Auditorium.

Morris is a second grade teacher at West Pine Elementary School in Moore County. She loves learning beside her students as she integrates STEM into her student-centered curriculum. Morris believes in the importance of providing equitable STEM opportunities to the students of North Carolina so they can become successful global citizens after graduation.

“The Division of Education is fortunate to have Ms. Morris as the speaker for our first meeting of education majors,” said Amanda Bullard-Maxwell, chair of the UMO Division of Education. “Ms. Morris has been recognized for her dedication, innovation, and ability to inspire her students. She is a role model for our future teachers.”
